Welp...I did it.

On Saturday I signed up with the Virginia Division of Team In Training to run the 2006 Walt Disney Half Marathon and raise (gulp) $3,200.

I'm really itching to get started and find out how to get my donation website up and running.  So far I've listed over 100 people I plan on contacting for a donation and several local businesses I plan on hitting up for money.  The idea of raising $3,200 is a little scarey...ok, a lot scarery.  But I'm willing to try and do my best for something I deem such a good cause.

Well, when I signed up, I got my little pakcet 'o' information.  The packet included pledge cards, info about the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Thank-You notes, and a wonderful CD that had lots of good information on about training and fundraising.  So watch out...you may get a letter begging for money real soon.  :)

We have our kickoff on August 6th and that's when this all REALLY begins.  That's when I'll meet my cancer patient honoree who I'll dedicate my run to, meet all the coaches, and truely begin the process of raising money and awareness.  I'm actually really excited to start and have a bunch of great ideas that I hope work to raise some $$$$.  Oh, I'm also ready to run.

So if you're reading...wish me luck :)

Today's Fact: Leukemia is still the leading cause of disease among children under the age of 15.

Good for you! I've been wanting to join things like this, I've only ever done the Revlon Run/Walk for Breastcancer, and I was meaning to sign up for the March of Dimes, but I wasn't able to this year. Do they have this run all over or just in Virginia? It sounds like it's good from every way you look at it, raise money, raise awareness, get in shape...

"Team in Training" is actually a national program with various chapters all around the country. You can check it out at www.teamintraining.org. The website kinda explains a little about the program and you can find your chapter by entering your area code up near the top right.

In my part of Virginia (Va. Beach, Norfolk) there a really great running organization in the area that has their own website of various runs and such and about 99.9 percent of the time the money is going to a great cause. www.coolrunning.com is a great site to look for a running/walking organization in your area :)
